Charlotte's Stork Fountain was thought to have been built in 1888 when the city had began its municipal water service. The fountain stood for sixty years until a vehicle ran into it on October 15, 1949. The city decided it would be too expensive to repair the fountain so it was loaded into a truck and taken to a Lansing junk yard. The fountain was found and bought by a couturier in July 1982 and was restored later that winter. That refurbishing process used four different aluminum parts [the original version was made of zinc]. The refurbished fountain was then displayed at 427 Main Street in Cedar Springs, MI for thirty years. In 2006 a petition was started to have a replica fountain built for Charlotte. The project would cost $50,000.
