Edward S. Lacey - 1871
Edward Lacey was the very first mayor of Charlotte. Born on November 26, 1835, Lacey was known for the work he put into banking. He had been a banker for 25 years and served two terms as congressman before being chosen as the U.S. Comptroller of the Currency by President Benjamin Harrison. Lacey resigned to become president of a large national bank in Chicago that he had organized. He died on October 2, 1916. Lacey Lake's name was taken from the Lacey family.
Phillip T. Van Zile - 1872 and 1873
Republican Phillip Van Zile was born on July 20, 1843 in Osceola, Pennsylvania. He went into service during the late civil war, and continued until the close of the war, after which he graduated from the law school of Ann Arbor University on March 28, 1867. He was an attorney for Eaton County for four years. Then, Van Zile moved to Charlotte, where he stayed and became mayor in 1872. He died in 1919.

Amos H. Munson - 1881
Amos Hale Munson was born June 13, 1819, at Salisbury, N. Y. After the death of his wife in 1853, Mr. Munson determined to move west, and in the fall of 1854 he located in Charlotte. There, he purchased large tracts land, both within the corporate limit of the city and outside, which has since proved very valuable. Since November 4, 1869, he associated himself with Mr. L.B. Brockett, under the firm name of A.H. Munson & Co. His natural talent in business and finances made him desirable, and led to his election as mayor in 1881. Munson died on April 1, 1886.
Samuel Robinson - 1882 and 1884
A business man, and civic leader. Served as an alderman, assessor, school board member. Also served as a democrat as a State Committeeman and convention delegate. Founded and owned the Robinson & Son furniture and undertaking business. But most importantly... look at that beard.

Purchased the Eagle Hotel with his wife which became famous in the area for many years. Fathered six children including Celia (Mrs. Dodge) and Levina (Mrs. Jacob Mikesell). Charlotte’s Shepherd Street is named after him.
Orrin E. Packard - 1889
Born in Oneonta N.Y. March 19 1849. He came to Charlotte at age 20 and clerked in a grocery store for E. J. Shepherd. He later purchased a feed store, served as mayor, and participated in many civic enterprises.

Born on May 17, 1885 in Waymart, Wayne County, Pennsylvania, Russel Samuel Spencer and his family are mostly known for their hardware store on the east side of the 100 block on Cochran Avenue. Spencer died on October 14, 1939.
